Dingwall cut off by big snowstorm

A snowstorm of curious severity broke over the North of Scotland early on Friday morning. It continued all day and on Saturday afternoon roads and rail line were blocked, the latter being embedded with continuous wreaths of snow. No assail of like severity has been experienced in the north since 1906. Dingwall was snowbound from Friday evening until Monday. Even then only some of the roads into the municipality were open and snow lay to an average depth of a foot and more, while drifts were several feet in detail. Probably the worst block in the district occurred on the south means between Dingwall and Maryburgh. On Friday night traffic was suspended and four or five cars remained stuck overnight and all day Saturday. The motorbus between Inverness and Dingwall stuck closely near Kildun and remained there until the Mid Ross District Body workmen cut out a line for the traffic. On Saturday morning, Mr Hogg, the street surveyor, had a snow plough out on this section and cleared a facilities up to Humberston. Strathpeffer and the west were cut off by road, and for a time by rod. The Skye railway line was reopened on Monday morning. Every procedure on the Black Isle was blocked. Easter Ross missed the full violence of the storm, but there were many wreaths of snow across the roads. In Alness territory, the storm rendered the roads almost impassable.
